Welcome! The Year Cup will run from now until mid April. All members of GTF will be automatically placed into one of the teams and the idea is that by next April you want to outscore and beat the other team. The emphasis of The Year Cup will be on the challenges, of which there will be one or two a month. There will also be points avaliable for Family Feud, forum contribution, Worldvision, and plenty other fun activities!

But, its not all about the competition. Each team will have their own Discord chat and be able to use this to talk about ideas, challenges, and also as an additional social hub. This should make it easier for new members particularly to fit in, as main_chat can be a bit intimidating.

For those of you familiar with the House Cup in summer (if you're not, an archive is here), it is pretty much that. Just on a much slower, enjoyable pace. During school holidays, we'll pick up the pace and do more challenges. Whilst during exam times and down periods, it'll be less intense.

So, what is the theme all about, and what team am I on?

We decided to pick two pretty interesting eras in history that still have a massive impact on popular culture, and acknowledge the imagery, and symbolism behind them:

The Wild West, otherwise known as the American Frontier. Think John Wayne. Red Dead Redemption. Think cowboys, bandits, think sherrifs. Most would agree this period installed the foundations of modern America, and the impact of it is still very prominent today in modern culture.

The Far East focuses on eras in both China and Japan and the symbolism and imagery of the Far East from 1000 to 1500 that is still very prominent today, including the eras of the Ming Dynasty and Jin Dynasty, and the rise of the Samurai Class with the establishment of the Shōgun & spread of Zen Buddhism in Japan.

To see what team you're on, and to learn more about where we're going with each team, check both threads out:

Where can I start scoring points?

Good question. Each team has four captains, and they should help and encourage you to participate where necessary (although,
no one should be forced - if you just enjoy the social side of the competition, that is fine - but some minor challenges, like Family Feud for example ,only take a few minutes a week whilst significantly helping the team).

The first challenge is a writing challenge and is avaliable now!: http://www.gayteenforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=75313

The first Family Feud is also avaliable now!: https://www.gayteenforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=75305

You can also score points for positive forum contribution, including Member of the Month.
