Love, Simon and Homophobic Parents

Unread postby CheeseSlice » 31st March, 2018, 9:26 pm

The purpose of this thread is pretty much just to complain about how much we really want to see the movie but those of us totally dependent of our homophobic parents aren't able to. For me, until I get a car, I'm totally dependent on my parents to take me to movies and of course given all my challenges they would feel like they have to be with me all the time thus bringing homophobic parents to a movie about homosexuals... bad idea.
So who else is in my boat? Maybe you really want to see it but can't for reasons of, say, being outed or bringing up family issues. Let me know, cause I know I can't be the only one. I hope

I’ll find you a bootleg or stream after it comes out and send it to your inbox personally.

Homophobic parents should not hinder youth experiencing media that represents them positively.

Today, I told my parents I was going out with my friends, bullshitted my way through there questions, got on the bus and met my friend and went to the cinema to watch it. It was great. If I can do it, so can you :)

I'm on the fence on whether Love, Simon really was a good representation. I loved the movie and cried, but i think it might be slightly daunting to young gays and might make them think like "Oh, I'm too scared I'll get outed so I'll stay in the closet for now." but they're in an endless loop of that.

I was watching a streaming of this movie the other day, and then my mom showed up, and was like 'Oh what's this movie about?'
I mean, that was LITERALLY the first time she asked me about what I watching,I mean what the HELL, so I just went like 'It's just another American comedy movie'
Of course, I didn't give her the title lol.
