My schedule for the next month

Unread postby René » 23rd June, 2018, 6:27 pm

Just so it doesn't seem like I disappeared :D

This is what the coming month will probably look like for me and Brenden:

  • 25-29 June - In Scotland to view potential places to move to
  • 2-6 July - Joining my parents in the Peak District
  • 9 July - Hopeful start of new tenancy in Scotland; initiate having the broadband connected
  • Roughly 13-23 July - Moving

So I'll be quite busy for the next 30 days or so, but I'll try to keep working on doing coding stuff for GTF on the weekends like I have been :keke:

Where & why are you considering Scotland?

I'll repeat here for others who didn't see it there :P

Anonymous Boy wrote:I went to look at how much Brenden's final university modules will cost – I knew it would be more than before because this Conservative government doesn't believe in funding education, but I was astonished to see that they would together cost around £4400 (close to $6000 for US people) while previously it would have been around 1/5 of that, or even zero due to student-finance programmes that have now been cancelled.

Meanwhile, the Scottish government seems to have its priorities straight, and if we move there, the cost will be around what it used to be here.

We've been wanting to move there for a long time anyway (because of better tenants' rights, more pro-immigrant attitudes, most of them wanted to stay in the EU, etc.), but it's now reached the point where it would be downright financially infeasible for us not to move there. :P

It'll be somewhere reasonably close to Glasgow and/or Edinburgh to have easy access to their airports and central stations for long-distance travel. I think East Kilbride or Ayr is likely (south/southwest of Glasgow).

Update:

Soon after we finished moving we learned that René’s father’s condition had deteriorated rapidly starting about a month ago, with brain metastases found about 5 weeks ago and a hospitalisation occurring. We quickly made plans to visit, initially to allow his mum to take a much-needed break and go away for a few days with a friend. When we arrived we found him now bed-ridden, delirious, not eating, and drinking very little. René has taken up a lot of the care for him (and it’s so bad that his mum wasn’t able able to go away as planned), in particular doing his medications and getting him to rehydrate and eat some. He’s gotten a little better thanks to this, but the end is quite near.

This is why René and I have been away from the forum longer than planned.

As expected when Brenden made his post, the end was indeed near; my father passed away 10 days later.

I've spent most of the time since the funeral taking over a lot of his many administrative tasks in my mom's business, which are now my responsibility.

We're now back in Scotland and making a lot of progress working through the backlog of things that had to make way for the events of the past few months, and I am now able to turn my attention to the forum again, starting with deleting all the spam.
