I can only think of two cases in over five years where a user has discovered another person they know in real life on the entire forum... I doubt it would happen on Discord. I'm not sure that should be our biggest consideration here :P

I'm glad you're warming like I have done once I've learnt about it.

I don't accept it being a valid concern, I just say that some users may feel uncomfortable, and I know of users who have chosen to avoid using names etc (often irrationally) for fear of being outed. I admit it is perhaps exacerbated by Discord (you may both be in a gaming discord somewhere else, for example), but I don't think its a legitimate concern but may certainly garner results.

Like george (and I guess I did, to start with?) said, I don't think it's an actual issue but I think you've got to take into account that kind of stuff given the demographics at play (Gay teens, who're googling "gay teen forum")

I think discord is inevitable and I support it, i'm just bringing up the things that might be an issue for some

Honestly, I see no reason not to scrap GTF chat and entirely migrate over once Discord fully implement their cams.

There are too many advantages to Discord, and not enough reasons to stick with GTF chat other than nostalgia.

pros: aman wont use chat anymore
cons: :gay:

If we're really concerned about how it might affect forum activity, we should take it upon ourselves to discuss and advocate forum events/things in chat. Having a GTF discord server can make finding new members much easier, and there are surely plenty of smooth twinks lost gayboys just dreaming of a gey discord server. Video chat will probably improve in coming updates, and its not like there is no videocamming. It's just up to us to use it and be a good example for new kids. Also voice channels r life. So i'm all for complete replacement of gtf chat with discord.

This exclusive leak screenshot shows how mods and CAs are working hard setting up the server, using advanced bots to improve the security and serious chat features:

 But seriously, bots on Discord are so extra you can even do stuff like play rock, paper, scissors with them

While it appears that most things have been figured out with the Discord chat, and how changing over to it will be inevitable, I would just like to offer a suggestion that I have with regards to the newcomers situation.

A lot of people want to limit this chat to only GTF members - and I agree. I don't think this chat should be available to everyone (but, if it is, they should certainly be encouraged to join the forum - in the ways Jacketh and Ethan have suggested).

In order to aid with getting more people on the site though, I think we should try to implement a landing page. That way, when someone enters the site for the first time, they are welcomed - with all the features of the site explained to them (such as the Discord server and the House Cup) and what the purpose of the site is. By explaining what we have on offer, people may be more inclined to join the forum and the chat. I imagine that more people would join when we sell the site to them - and this how we can do it. :P I still remember at the start of the House Cup telling new members in chat to get involved; unsurprisingly, a lot of the newcomers that got involved with the House Cup have stuck around.

While I don't have a mock-up of what the landing page could look like, I'm sure (if people are on board) someone can whip something up.

I'm not entirely sure where we stand on access to the Discord. It's hard, we can either:

- Only allow access to people who come to GTF first, ensuring they have an account.

- Allow access to people who have discovered the Discord, then encourage them to join GTF and the site.

Whilst the first option may sound preferable, we need to consider the second option has serious potential in expanding the sites membership and discovering people who might love a site like GTF, but not necessarily ever search for a forum. Discord is popular with young people, whilst forums are a thing of the 00s that many young people, unfortunately for us, will never search for.

But as I said, the commitment is that the Discord will be for GTF people. I really doubt we're going to be flooded with randomers suddenly. If a few unfamiliar people turn up every week, then they can be encouraged to create an account on GTF. I don't think it would be overwhelming.

Right now, I'm in favour of the second option, but of course it needs to be done correctly. I'm sure we'll figure something out.

As for your suggestion... we could potentially create an "About Us" page that they land on. It could be up next to the "Rules, Members, Chat" at the top.

We could include some examples of the House Cup, lip syncs. Maybe even profiles of the Community Ambassadors/Mods or something.

I presume as much that the Discord will be included in the welcome PM, of course, but I think the second method there should be more than acceptable if managed appropriately.

Its a small point; will one be able to cam with voice channels, or will they be separate channels?

I guess also an advantage of GTF Discord is I can access it despite porn-filters on the public wifi's I use, so that should also be beneficial.

I must be entirely honest, that I am still uneasy about completely swapping over, but that is most certainly for nostalgia reasons moreso than anything else. I would like us to stay committed to allowing non-existing users to access it (albeit with limited access) to allow us to continue to discuss with people who are curious, confused, otherwise scouting out the forum, and allows us to grow our membership further.

Do it, Discord is easy, free and fast. The current chat room system is so 2009.

You'd know all about 2009 given it was the year Britney was last relevant.
