Yes its getting to that time of year again. Following Ukraine's shock - and might I add rude and selfish - victory in Stockholm last year, the contest returns to Kiev. Forty-three countries return to compete for the ultimate bragging rights. Some countries have already confirmed their entries - Albania, Belarus and Georgia namely. The UK will pick their entry on BBC Two's Eurovision: You Decide which airs on January 27. Other countries will confirm their entry over the next few months and all will be confirmed by April.

So, we can guarantee at least one result from this years Eurovision!

The UK is most certainly not going to win. :werd:

We've been able to call that since 1998

just from the thumbnails those UK entries look like lowest common denominator trash, not even gonna bother watching them.

Im somewhat hopeful that with Eurovision returning to far Eastern Europe we will see a comeback in some of the cheese that has been sadly lacking the last few years.

I'm curious who Australia will pick this year. I have yet to hear any rumors. Going by previous years we confirm quite late in the game. I would like to see us progress to some sort of national public selection rather than be told who it is by the broadcaster.

Annnnd you chose a boring ballad from some woman with a nasally voice. Congrats UK, continuing your national pastime of poor collective decision making.

Copying and Pasting what I put on another forum:

]I just got back from the live show and haven't watched on TV yet. There were so many angry people coming out the venue lol.

I went in not really having a strong preference either way - any one of them could win (aside from Nate, I guess). Holly and Olivia both made the biggest impact on me. Holly's vocals were amazing and it was a great performance, whilst Olivia had the better song. It felt like everyone in the audience wanted Selena to win, which - I didn't really get. I wasn't feeling her at all. In terms of performance tonight, Holly > Olivia > Lucie > Selena > Nate > Danyl

Lucie was impressive though. The staging was really nice, and live, she really pull it off. The song just doesn't do it for me, I wish it did - and I wish we she had something better to give her. On first listen I wasn't impressed at all, which matters in Eurovision. I hope she can revamp the song a bit and make it bit more memorable, she has the time to do it - but I'm not sure she will.

It depends if its a strong year or not and which position in the running order, but I think the best we can probably aim for is 15th. Its depressing, as everyone on that stage tonight could sing, and sing well. The problems were absolutely the songs - not the vocals.

On the BBC: It was nice that it was a bigger arena, on BBC 2, and it was good to see Alexander Rybak and, even The Vamps (who, I was surprisingly sat watching and considering 'why can't we send them :P) - I just wish they'd offer us more songs with more variety. Make the show 2 hours and give us 10 songs. C'mon.

Not gonna' lie, though - I genuinely preferred Joe and Jake I fear we'll send Lucie, she'll get a running order of about 5th, be completely forgotten about as the song isn't a standout and there *will* be better vocalists, and, ultimately finish about 22nd. Ah well, it could be a lot worse - we could have the Hump or Electro Velvet.

I swear the BBC has decided it never wants to host this thing ever again. Like, 7 times was enough, let the Europeans have it

Well the pre-drinks to Eurovision's big night out starts next week: Melodifestivalen. 28 acts are slated to perform and battle for glory over four semi-finals, a 'second-chance' round and the finale across February and into March.

This is always interesting.
