Update: To vote for GTF's new logo, check out this thread.

Quarto is now close to being ready to be rolled out as the default theme. The main thing that's left is a nice logo. That's where you guys come in — I hope there are a few graphics-design people among you who are willing to make a new logo for the site that works well with the new responsive theme :)

First, a few guidelines regarding submissions:

  • To submit a logo, just post it in this thread.
  • Anything you post here does not need to be a finished product; feel free to post drafts or bounce ideas off people. I encourage you to do so early, as I imagine you will benefit from other members' constructive comments along the way.
  • Feel free to make multiple submissions, or to make a simple one first and a more intricate one later.
  • You don't have to worry about different submissions competing with each other for votes; an appropriate voting system will be used to minimise the impact of tactical voting and similar problems. Submitting multiple designs just means it's more likely that there'll be one most people like.
  • We may use any early submissions or drafts as a temporary placeholder logo, just to replace the default Quarto one.
  • We may even launch Quarto as the default theme with such a temporary logo. In that event, it will be made clear that the final selection has yet to be made.
  • If you'd like to submit a logo for GFO, or one for each site that goes well with the other, feel free to do so. (It is not a requirement that logos for GTF or GFO match in any way, though.)
  • You can PM me your submissions if you prefer, but I recommend posting them here instead and benefitting from any public feedback offered.
  • Please have your final designs ready by Sunday 22 January.

Regarding the logo itself, I have a few requirements/recommendations. Feel free to post drafts that don't meet all of them yet, though:

  • Logos will need to work well with each of the different default colour schemes, either by having one version that works with all of them or having different versions for each. (I expect this will also make them compatible with any custom colour scheme we may decide to add in the future.)
  • Logos will need to work well across the whole range of different screen resolutions, from phone screens in portrait mode up to widescreen monitors. This will probably mean creating versions of different sizes in the end, since a logo that looks good on a big screen may be far too big for a phone screen. Another option is to create a larger image for the home page and a smaller/shorter one for other pages (as is the case on GFO now).
    • Basically, please give consideration to the different kinds of devices people use and how big your logo will look on them, and consider making different-size versions that fit the Quarto layout as it varies across those devices and screen sizes.
  • It'd be good to avoid overly male-centric imagery.
  • If you can use vector graphics (e.g. using Adobe Illustrator rather than Photoshop) and produce SVG images, that would be awesome, because those are really crisp on high-definition screens like iPads'. You can see this when you zoom in on GFO's current homepage logo, for example.

Again, please have your final designs ready no later than Sunday 22 January, as I hope to allow people to vote in the week following that date.

Thanks! I wish you all a happy Christmas and a terrific new year :keke:

does that mean each skin can have a different logo? So I can make one but change the color and turn it into 12 so it goes with each skin?

You certainly could! It's not been decided that we're going to change the AeroBlue logo, though; the only requirement is that your logo goes well with each version of Quarto, in one way or another. :)

It seems that perhaps Christmastide wasn't the best time for something like this. Family and such.

So, this is what I threw together some time ago as an idea for GFO. :tea: Use your imagination to insert a Teen in the middle. :P

And of course the colour (or colours) of the text can be changed in a myriad of ways, and I was considering using a more vertical-line-y font and finding some public domain or CC silhouettes that are, like, leaning up against letters (all cool like, y'dig? Image ) or a group of silhouettes hanging out in some negative space.

Okay so just to kick things off, are there any symbols that we can unite around (aside from the pride flag because the colours can get a bit harsh at times)

There are few symbols that I think would be general enough, especially if we want to make this forum seem more open to the wider LGBTQ+ community rather than just gay men.

This one is more general and seems to be popular :p Can represent any sexuality or gender.

Personally, I would keep any icon colorful at least and leave the text a single solid color.

Would be nice to get more opinions and designers up in here.

Hello, Des told me to post these here to not stick it in chat!

@Kyler, a few comments.

The colours for the 4th and 5th are pretty good. However I'm not a fan of the font. It's too futuristic, and the kerning is off in places. As for the logo, I really like it, but I'm not sure if the X is great. I might have to shamelessly borrow it and incorporate it into a design. I really like the usage of it in the T though.

The outline isn't great I don't think. At least - Not a solid black outline. The colours on the third are great, although maybe too light and dark at the extremes. A nice eggshell blue is nice and neutral though.
