This topic doesn't concern everyone in this forum, if you're too lazy to read this; go back to what you were doing Now, you may think that I'm trying to make you tell everyone that you're gay, but I'm really not, I'm just gonna explain to you how much better it's gonna feel if you tell SOMEONE (a good friend) that you're gay. Let me tell you a story about this kid (let's call him Peter) who was in the closet. Peter found out for sure that he was gay at age 14. He didn't know what to do or where to go, he was lost and alone in his own thoughts/world. Four years had gone by and Peter was still "in the closet". He had incredibly many friends and a really wonderful family, but he was still in that damned dark closet. But one day when Peter drank coffee with his good friend Tonje at a popular coffeehouse, he said to her - "Tonje, I have a secret that I'm really afraid to tell... I want, but can't, it's just too hard!" Tonje looked at him curiously, and answered - "Listen Peter, I've told you this before and I'm telling you it again: you can trust me 100%, if there is ANYTHING you want to tell me, do it, it will be between us, my lips are totally sealed." Peter sat there quietly without saying a single word for about 2 minutes, his mind kept saying "should I tell her or should I not?". He was so scared that he wasn't sure whether to say it or not, but then he looked at Tonje straight in the eyes and said - "I'm gay". The moment he told Tonje, he felt SO much better, just by telling ONE person that he's gay. Tonje looked at him and said "Peter, you can be gay, bisexual and even transsexual, but I don't care, because you are still you, that person I made friends with, that person I care so much about. I told you that I'm 100% there for you whenever you need me, and I still am, if you need help with this I'll help you, but just know that I still love you for who you are, don't you ever change." After Tonje's speech, he was even more happy. He almost started to cry, but he didn't. The End Dear people that are in the closet, if you have good friends that you can trust, tell them that you're gay, you will feel SO much better, trust me. It's easier to come out for your parents after telling your friends, why? because you've done it before and you can do it again, it's not a riddle, it's adrenaline, it's fear. Don't let it be a burden and more important don't let it break you. Most friends will accept it (especially female friends), so really, what are you waiting for??? Get on that white horse and send your message to everybody! Make them care! Be confident and be strong, because without that, people WILL use you for their own good. Have a nice day

Or the alternative ending: "I'm gay." "That's disgusting, Peter!" And the next day Tonje had told several of her friends. From there, of course, it snowballed, and snowballed, and snowballed until, a few days later, Peter's entire grade at school knew. Word had even reached Peter's family, where his, previously loving, father's outdated beliefs, instilled in him by an upbringing in the society of so many decades ago, caused a black rift to wedge its ugly form within Peter's family, all over this one small detail. Their lives were never the same. Of course, that may not happen, but it could happen, it really could. People can read all the stories they like with happy endings, but there's just as many with sad endings and anyone who's going to make such an important decision must be armed with all the information, not just that of one possible outcome. Still, it's a good thread. Nice message.

I dunno, it's more bittersweet to me, for every time I've talked about it with someone for the first time.
Can't say I ever feel 'better'. Most of the times it's completely mixed feelings, and they take their course depending on how the person treats it in the long haul. From experience... roughly half the time it's not a good feeling for me.
But with that being said, half glass full, and it's gotta be done.

I knew I could trust Tonje, because she's been there for me so many times when I needed her. It's all about instinct. If you feel really bad about telling the person, don't do it, no one is FORCING anyone to come out.

Exactly this. sunomonay wrote: Still, it's a good thread. Nice message. Not a nice thread, it's full of crap. leblancalex wrote: Rinat wrote: "Peter, you can be gay, bisexual and even transsexual

Lucky you that you have "Tonje" (weird name anyways) but I saw people crying on this forum after they rushed too fast with coming out. And I'm not talking about me, cuz I'm simply fabulous (and I came out to first people several years ago).
