Forum rules

Welcome to the News, Current Affairs & Debate subforum.

This forum is the place for intellectual discussions relating to news, current affairs, or philosophical & scientific debates. There are some guidelines that apply specifically to posts in this forum, of which you will be expected to have made yourself aware before participating. They are as follows:

  • Intellectually stimulating topics only. If you can't have a deep discussion about something, it does not belong here.
  • If you're going to post, have something to say. When you make a new thread, write the initial post in a way that provides an introduction to the topic and invites further discussion. You could tell us how you feel and why, but always aim for constructive responses that further a discussion about the ideas involved, rather than a simple list of people's views. (Instead of asking "Are you a vegetarian?", discuss some of the arguments involved.) This guideline likewise applies for responses to topics.
  • Write using good English. That means full sentences with proper capitalisation, punctuation, spelling and grammar. No one is perfect, though; this is not an invitation to criticise others for minor mistakes.
  • Be nice. This is a forum for rational discourse, not flame wars. No one is always right. Be respectful of other people's views and accept that we are all entitled to our own.

These guidelines will be enforced by the moderators based on their best judgement, and anyone who does not take them seriously will lose the privilege of posting here. Spammers will be banned from the entire forum.

This is just one website that goes into there are several more. We've all heard "good vibes" "bad vibes" and this is where it is from. Love is the highest form of energy, with fear being the lowest form. So technically this is our sixth sense, sadly we've gone away from this idea but the internet is enlightening more people on it. Emit more love energy! This is also sort of a way to tell if a relationship works, if you and someone emit love energy when with each other and sense the person's energy and you should be able to tell if they're a good person or not. This is also why there is a completely different feeling when in an urban area or rural area. Awaken your sixth sense! Be high energy!

Either that or a natural bio-chemical reaction to danger or the need to find a partner, both fundamental to human survival.

To rephrase: science with scientific explanations explains the science which underpins our scientific emotions. SCIENCE!

I'm gonna go with Jonathan on this - love doesn't have an electromagnetic signature that we supernaturally emit, and most of the "science" suggesting it does is tabloid sourced. As cool as the idea of emotions and conditions being translated into human-oriented electric fields is, the much more explainable (studied and proven) explanation is simple biochemical responses. "Sensing" someone's energy is simply subconscious intake and interpretation of what we see in people, and feeling a difference between rural and urban areas should be self-explanatory - they're different.
As much as I support the cheery message of spreading love energy, fake science is a bit of a plague in the Internet age.

Humans (And all living things?) emit biophotons, which is a light that's undetectable to human eyes, and we emit energy in various forms. I'm almost certain we don't emit an electromagnetic field at all, let alone it being an indicator of emotional state?

I mean, just think logically about it for a little bit, what evolutionary purpose would this serve when humans already outwardly express emotional state via movement and motions? Why expend energy creating an influencing field that changes via very specific changes in hormones that correspond to the variety of emotions humans experience when we've already got methods to do the same thing that's been present in our lineage long enough for all apes to have it

Living things emit electrical fields (primarily through muscle contractions but even paralysed prey can be found so there's more at work) but this is being confused with 'love energy' and other new age bullshit.

Sharks famously use their ampullae of Lorenzini to allow their electrosense to detect the presence of different electrical fields. This allows them to sense buried prey and has been hypothesised to allow them to feel changes in earth's magnetic field.

Humans though? Nah, its fairly exclusive to aquatic and amphibious animals. Bees, cockroaches, and echidnas are the currently known exception.

Love/fear/etc are not forms of energy. They're emotions, produced by a network of cells in our brains which do use electrical charge differentials, along with molecular signalling, to transmit and process information. However, the electromagnetic fields such charges produce are very weak and localised and do not differ in fundamental ways depending on different thoughts, feelings, or emotions; how they differ is where in the brain they originate, i.e., where the discharging is occurring. We can actually measure these fields and thus locate their originating charges, however as I said the fields do not differ fundamentally — they're all magnetic fields produced by moving electrical changes; it's all the same electromagnetism.
